 Female students from Sistan and Baluchestan province of Iran become familiar with UN

A group of some 35 female students along with their two teachers from Sib and Soran border villages in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province (South eastern Iran) were briefed on the UN, its history and main organs by UNIC National Information Officer Mr Mohammad Rajai-Moghadam at Roshd High School in Tehran on 14 February 2016, AVA Diplomatic reports.

Mr. Moghadam briefed the students on when and why the UN was established. Reminded them that Iran was a founding member of the UN. He also spoke about the Organization’s 6 major organs, their structure as well as responsibilities, UN’s main tasks, UN agencies, funds and programmes active in Iran and Sustainable Development Goals. He also answered the student questions on UN’s activities and role in regard to safeguarding peace in Yemen, Iraq and Syria.

“Our students really appreciate attention from UNIC, they learned many new things about UN and are motivated to do independent research on UN during the school year,” said Deputy Director of Education Department of Sib and Soran Town Mr. Reza Zehi.

One of the students said she was very happy to learn more about the UN and invited UNIC team to travel to the Sistan and Baluchestan Province and visit her village.

This outreach lecture was conducted in the framework of plan of cooperation between UNIC and Roshd Charity Organization. This NGO recently received affiliation status with the UN Department of Public Information and it supports education of primary and high school children in the deprived areas of Iran.

UNIC regularly organizes outreach lectures and discussions on UN, its values and work in Iran for all interested groups and individuals.
