Enhancing Awareness about the UN: a Joint Endeavor by IAUNS and UNIC

In a joint event held by the Iranian Association of UN Studies (IAUNS) and United Nations Information Center (UNIC)-Iran, 25 Ph.D. and Master’s degree students were briefed about retrieving the UN-related information and documentation, AVA Diplomatic reports.
In the first session held on 10 November, UNIC Reference Assistant, Nazanin Ghaemmaghami addressed the students on how to search for information on the UN, UN in Iran and UNIC websites. Focusing on peace and security as the main pillar of the UN, she introduced the UN bodies and elaborated on peacekeeping, number of the troops, how to find information on current and past operations, and financing of the peacekeeping operations.
Ms. Ghaemmaghami also explained about the basic UN facts such as its history, observances, member states, regular budget and structure, as well as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Copies of the UN Charter and Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Persian were also distributed among the participating students. Scheduled for the period of Fall/Winter 2014, these workshops seek to broaden the knowledge of intellectuals, students and researchers about the UN.
