 Students of the Islamic Azad University learn more about the UN website

With the request of some graduate students of the international law department, the United Nations Information Centre, held a workshop entitled “Finding UN Information and Documentation” on 17 September 2015. The participants were mostly from the Islamic Azad University, North Tehran Branch, AVA Diplomatic reports.

The workshop was conducted by UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani, who elaborated on some basic facts about the UN and70th anniversary of its establishment, which is marked this year.   She also highlighted important role which Iran has played in establishment of UN as one of the founding Member States of the Organization.

Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani also explained how to find and retrieve UN information on the UNIC, and the UN websites as well as Dag Hammarskjold Library page on the web. Overview and searching through some of DHL resources and databases including UNBISNET and Official Document System (ODS) were also included in the programme of the workshop.

The focus of the workshop was made on UN bodies related to international law such as International Court of Justice (ICJ), Courts and Tribunals,  General Assembly Sixth Committee (Legal), International Law Commission(ILC) and United Nations Commission on International Trade Law. Treaty Collection and UN Audiovisual Library of International Law were among the legal resources introduced to the participants. They learnt how to locate a multilateral treaty and its status. A video on introducing ICJ was also screened during the session.

A Ph.D. student Ms. Safoura Shojaeian who was the organizer of the workshop, expressed the satisfaction of the participants and told that getting familiar with the Dag Hammarskjod databases is very useful for the researchers.
