Members of Bar Association from Alborz Province learn how to find UN information

UN Information Center briefed members of the Alborz Bar Association on how to find UN information and documentation on UN websites, AVA Diplomatic reports.

This event is one in a series of workshops designed for legal professionals across the country.  It took place on 25 August 2015 at the UN Office for some 21 members of the board of Directors and advocates who are practicing law at the Alborz Province mostly in Karaj city.

 “Promoting the rule of law at the national and international levels is at the heart of the United Nations’ mission,” said UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani, who led the workshop.  She also elaborated on some basic facts about the UN and 70th anniversary of its establishment, which is marked this year and Iran’s role as the one of the founding Member States of the UN.

Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani explained how to find and retrieve UN information on the bilingual UNIC, and the UN websites as well as Dag Hammarskjold Library page on the web. Overview and searching through some of DHL resources and databases including UNBISNETand Official Document System (ODS) were also included in the programme of the workshop.

The focus of the workshop was on justice and international law, the rule of law, Administration of Justice and International Court of Justice (ICJ). A video on ICJ was also screened during the session.

UN Audiovisual Library of International Law was among the legal resources introduced to the participants as well as some of the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights publications such as “A manual on human rights for judges, prosecutors and lawyers” published in cooperation with the International Bar Association.

During the workshop, UNIC Public Information Officer, Ms. Maria Dotsenko joined the programme and welcomed the participants. She also talked about UNIC activities, UN70 public awareness campaign and introduced the internship programme at the office.

Both the Deputy Director of the Bar Association Mr. Ja’far Rezazadeh as well as Member of the Board of Directors and Head of the Education Commission Mr. Zeinulabedin Rostami who organized the session, expressed their satisfaction from the workshop and hoped to have the same programme with some other members of the association.
