Iran, Germany to cooperate on water management

Iran is ready to use Germany’s experiences on water management, said Deputy Energy Minister Rahim Meydani on Monday, AVA Diplomatic reports.

In a meeting between Meydani and German Ambassador to Tehran Michael Sternberg on Monday, Meydani said currently, there is good cooperation between the two countries on education, the ministry’s website reported.

Due to special situation of water resources in Iran during the past years and emergence of new conditions such as climate change, drought and temperature rise, Iran is interested to cooperate with Germany in these fields, the Iranian official added.

Meydani said the issue of management and protection of water resources has been one of the priorities of Energy Ministry, adding ‘we are willing to cooperate with Germany on management of water and drought, ways of consuming water in agriculture and using water more efficiently in industries’.

Meanwhile, the German ambassador said his country’s companies are currently working in Iran in various economic and developmental projects, but cooperation on water has been little.

‘Water is a substance which is getting more and more rare and there is no alternative for it. In a country like Iran, water is vitally important,’ said the ambassador.

Referring to a visit to Orumieh Lake by a German delegation, Sternberg said Germany is ready to work with Iran on the environmental issues.
