Iran, Russia Stress Mutual Cooperation on Nuclear Energy
The Russian ambassador to Tehran says the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia are discussing ways to expand nuclear cooperation, AVA Diplomatic reports.Levan Dzhagaryan stated Iran and Russia are ready to expand cooperation in the nuclear energy sector, adding experts from the two countries are holding talks on further nuclear cooperation, which would be carried out following an agreement.
In the meantime, the Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said the Islamic Republic is in talks with Russia for the construction of new nuclear power plants to produce 4,000 megawatts of electricity.
Pointing to a 1992 deal between Tehran and Moscow, Salehi said the agreement requires Russia to build nuclear plants in Iran to produce 4,000 megawatts of electricity.
He concluded that the two sides are holding serious talks on the implementation of the agreement.
