After their visit to visited Rasht and Bandar Anzali, Indian ambassador to Iran and his entourage visited Astara to tour its recently built multipurpose port, AVA diplomatic reports.
Indian Ambassador to Iran D.P. Srivastava, Second Secretary (Political, Information, and Culture) Nandakumar N., and Third Secretary (Press & Information) Abdul Sami visited the border city of Astara.
“Due to its geographical position, Iran plays a significant role for exports, imports, commodity transit and cooperation among India, Iran and Caucasian countries,” said the Indian envoy, while commenting on the activities of Anzali and Astara ports in the Caspian Sea.
“Iran route can have a significant impact in the actual costs of the products,” Srivastava added.
In another part of his remarks, the Indian ambassador to Iran spoke of the historical relations between the two countries, on their further expansion.
He said Iran’s facilities particularly in Gilan’s ports can drive India’s goals forward, stressing that he and his entourage were impressed by the equipment installed in the two ports.
Srivastava compared the two Anzali and Astara ports, saying Astara port is quite modern, recently-established, and possesses facilities and equipment in comparison with Anzali port and has been successful in security, inspection, and environmental dimensions.
He called the port’s great open and suitable breakwaters its distinctive feature and India will be ready to cooperate with Iran in the near future.
At the end of the visit, Astara Ports and Maritime Administration’s director and the Indian ambassador to Iran stressed the continuation and expansion of bilateral cooperation.
