 UN Day commemorated at Allameh Tabatabaee University

UNIC Director Maria Dotsenko delivered a speech during a seminar organized by Organization for Defending Victims of Terror (ADVT) and Allameh Tababatabaee University (ATU) at the auditorium of Faculty of Law and Political Science of the University, followed by video screening of the SG’s UN Day message on 28 October 2018, AVA Diplomatic reports.

Addressing university professors and students as well as some diplomats stationed in Tehran, Dotsenko said United Nations was established 73 years ago with the primary purpose of UN establishment was to prevent wars and promote the peace.

She said UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. “With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including Iran, the UN officially came into being,” she added.

UNIC Director pointed out that during the 73 years of its establishment, the UN has faced and tried to tackle with many global challenges including terrorism.

24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948.

Other speakers of the conference were: Deputy Director of ADVT Ms. Manoureh Karami as well as Allameh Tabatabaee University law professors Dr. Qasem Zamani, Dr. Heibatollah Nazhandimanesh and Dr. Mehrdad Rayejianasl and Ph.d student Morteza Ghahremimanamen.

Also, an exhibition of historical photos and documents on UN-Iran partnership was displayed for the participants. Copies of the Persian version of UN System Chart, UDHR, UN Charter and UN Cards were given to the participants.
