 On the 70th anniversary of establishment of the UN Depository Library: Islamic Consultative Assembly Librarians learn more about the UN

A training session on “Finding UN Information and Documentation” was held for some 20 librarians of the Library, Museum and Documentation Centre of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majles-e Shora-ye Eslami) at the Museum on 5 November 2018, AVA Diplomatic reports.

The session started with welcoming words of the Director of the Documentation Centre of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Dr Ali Tatari. He briefly talked about the importance of the UN Depository Library in the Islamic Consultative Assembly that was established 70 years ago on May 1948. He mentioned that on this 70th anniversary, the Library, Museum and Documentation Centre has decided to hold some events with cooperation of United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) including the same workshop. The participants learned about some basic facts about the UN, and how to find and retrieve UN information and documents on the UNIC, the UN websites and the Dag Hammarskjold Library (DHL) webpage. UNIC Reference Assistant, Ms Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani as the facilitator of the training session, briefed the participants on the UN document symbols as well as searching through some of DHL resources and databases including UNBISNET and Official Document System (ODS). There was a navigation on the  DHL Depository Library Programme webpage that now is consisted of a network of 356 depository libraries located in 136 countries. One of the oldest UN depository libraries in this network was established 70 years ago at the Parliamentary Library of Iran. Copies of the UN System Chart, Universal Declaration of Human Rights and UN Charter were distributed among the participants.
