 Civil society representatives learn more about the UN and its website

UNIC together with the Iran’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Naghshe Javid Institute organized “Finding UN Information” workshop for representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs) dealing with young people and sports, AVA Diplomatic reports.

Seven workshops in this series were held in 2014-2016 by UNIC. This, eighth one, was held on 26 July 2018. More than 50 representatives of youth affairs and sports CSOs from Tehran, Kermanshah, South Khorasan and other provinces of Iran participated.

UNIC Reference Assistant Ms Nazanin Ghaemmaghmi elaborated on basic facts about the UN, UN General Assembly, Security Council and its resolutions as well as Economic and Social Council.  She briefed the participants on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  The participants also navigated the UN website on UN and civil society, association with DPI and how to obtain ECOSOC consultative status.

UNIC invited UNFPA Programme Specialist Dr Monire Bassir to brief the audience on UNFPA ‘s work and gender issues. She said UNFPA aims at ensuring that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. She also discussed with the participants the importance of universal access to reproductive health and talked about UNFPA’s work on women’s empowerment and ending harmful practices against women. She also answered the questions.

Advisor to the Governor General of Tehran and Director-General of Women and Family Affairs of the Tehran Province Dr Soraya Shareghi as a participant of the workshop said that the session was very useful, and she expressed hope that further sessions could be held with her office.

Ms Zahra Abbasi, the organizer of the workshop expressed her own and the participants satisfaction from the workshop and thanked UNIC for the continued cooperation with Naghshe Javid Institute in holding series of workshops every summer.

Persian copies of the UN Charter as well as the UN System Chart were distributed among participants.
