UK Envoy to Tehran Rob Macaire stressed support for Iran nuclear deal otherwise known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), AVA Diplomatic reports.
He made the remarks in a meeting which was organized by Tehran Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday night.
The meeting was held with the attendance of the First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
“This was a constructive event, and I was pleased to be able to reiterate UK support for #JCPOA at it,” Macaire wrote in his Twitter account.
Meanwhile, Ambassador of Lebanon to Iran Hassan Abbas in a separate message referred to the meeting saying, “Commitment to JCPOA with the view of ensuring economic benefits to Iran was highlighted by all the speakers.’
US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington was walking away from the nuclear agreement.
Trump also said he would reinstate the US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose “the highest level” of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.
Under the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.
