US decision against Quds brings more unity to Palestinians: Iran official

The US recent approach about Holy Quds and the region has resulted in more unity among the Palestinian groups, an Iranian official said on Tuesday, AVA Diplomatic reports.

But the US decision has also led to growing tension in the region, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the special aide to Majlis (Parliament) speaker, said in a meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Tehran Markus Leitner. Amir-Abdollahian appreciated the position of Switzerland about the December 6 decision made by the US President Donald Trump on moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the Holy Quds.

Swiss Foreign Ministry, a day after the announcement of the US decision, declared that such a move is an ‘obstacle to a just and lasting peace’ in the region.

Political figures and international organizations including the United Nations (UN) as well as all the European Union (EU) member states have warned the US not to transfer its embassy to holy Quds (Jerusalem) upon a decision made by Trump on Wednesday.

Turning to the issue of mutual ties between Iran and Switzerland, Amir-Abdollahian stressed the importance of strengthening the bilateral relations in all areas, particularly in the parliamentary field.

Talking about the issues of Yemen and Bahrain, the official said Iran supports the diplomatic solution for the Yemen crisis, calling for acceleration of sending humanitarian aid to the crisis-stricken country.

Also about Bahrain, Amir-Abdollahian said Al Khalifa rulers have created a deep ‘military and security rift’ between the Bahraini government and the people.

‘We expect Switzerland as a supporter of the human rights issues to have deeper understanding about the existing conditions in this country [Bahrain],’ he added.

The Swiss ambassador underlined the importance of finding a diplomatic solution to the regional problems including the Yemen question.

Leitner said that his country’s stance on many issues is similar to Iran’s.

Thousands of Yemenis, mostly women and children and old people, have been killed by Riyadh-led military aggression against the country since March 26, 2015.
