Leaving about UN-Iran Partnership during Celebration of International Youth Day in Iran

International Youth Day was celebrated in Tehran by UN agencies, in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO at the Sa’adabad Cultural and Historical Complex on 13 August 2017, AVA Diplomatic reports.
The event was organized and led by UNESCO with the support of UNIC, UNFPA, UNICEF, WHO, UNDP and other UN agencies. More than 140 guests participated in three panel discussions with young people, Government officials, NGOs and UN agencies’ representatives on important topics, such as health and sports, education and sciences and the environment.
A large number of participants of the International Youth Day ceremony and visitors of Sa’adabad Palace including foreign tourists toured UN-Iran partnership photo exhibition.
Event participants and other visitors of the Sa’adabad Complex also learned more about history of UN-Iran partnership while visiting exhibition of rare historic photos and document, which feature special moments in the history of UN-Iran partnership. This exhibition was organized by UNIC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department for Documents and History of Diplomacywith the support of IRNA news agency. UNIC team takes it around the country to tell the story of successful cooperation between UN and Iran during all 72 years of UN existence. Iran is one of the UN founding Member States and keeps playing an important role in strengthening of the Organization.
Various UN promotional materials in Persian and English were distributed to the public.
12 August was first designated as the International Youth Day by the UN General Assembly in 1999. Since then, it serves as an annual celebration of the role of young women and men in development, and an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges and problems facing the world’s youth. This year’s theme is ‘Youth Building Peace’, to celebrate young people’s contributions to conflict prevention and sustainable peace.
