British Ambassador to Tehran Nicholas Hopton reiterated his country’s loyalty and support for the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers, AVA Diplomatic reports.
“The British government has declared its commitment to support the nuclear deal and we consider it as a good ground for the development of relations,” Hopton said in a meeting with the governor-general of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province in Tabriz on Saturday.
Stressing age-old ties between Tehran and Britain, he said, “The Iranian and British nations have known each other since old times and this has risen up to a special opportunity for contacts between the two countries.”
Hopton also underscored the need for broadening relations between Britain and East Azerbaijan province, and said, “We can enhance economic and cultural ties with the historical city of Tabriz.”
In relevant remarks in October, Hopton underlined that many British companies and banks are willing to expand their cooperation with Iran following the last year nuclear deal.
“Today, we are witnessing real progress in bilateral relations and the British firms and banks are highly willing to cooperate with Iranian companies,” Hopton said in a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran.
“Necessary negotiations will be held between the two countries’ Central Banks in the near future.”
He also underscored the importance of cooperation with Tehran to resolve the regional crises, and said, “We hope to have more cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran on regional issues.”
President Rouhani, for his part, stressed Iran’s full compliance with the last year nuclear deal, and said Tehran expects the world powers to reciprocate Iran’s compliance with their full implementation of the agreement.
