 Portuguese Envoy: JCPOA important agreement for both sides

Portuguese Ambassador to Tehran said Wednesday that nuclear agreement was an important deal between Iran and the six world powers and his government will be pleased to restore bilateral trade relations back to level of pre-sanctions era, AVA Diplomatic reports.

Joao Jose Corte Real made the remarks in a meeting with head of Iran-Portugal parliamentary friendship group Mustafa Kavakebian.

Corte Real expressed pleasure for increase in economic ties between the two countries after JCPOA agreement.

He said that Iran is an important and effective country in the region and establishment of stability and security in the region without Iran’s participation in regional and international decision-making is impossible.

The ambassador also said that economic cooperation and joint investment projects, especially in the sector of energy is important for Portugal and we are interested to promote economic cooperation level.

Kavakebian evaluated growing trend of economic and cultural interactions between the two countries positive and said that there exists appropriate grounds in different sectors of economic and trade which should be used in direction to bolster bilateral ties.

The two sides also underlined expansion of parliamentary relations in addition to political and cultural ties.

The Iranian MP said that although Portugal is among western countries, but it takes decisions upon its own domestic policies in relation to other world countries.

Other members of the Iran-Portugal friendship group were present in the meeting, as well.
