Ketabraneh and UNIC commemorate World Book and Copy Right Day

Ketabraneh(mobile bookstore) and UNIC Tehran jointly in presence of some 15 boy students from Allameh Tabatabaee Primary School and their parents commemorated World Book and Copy Right Day at Ketabraneh Book Store on 25 April 2016, AVA Diplomatic reports.

Addressing the participants UNIC Reference Assistant Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani briefed them on the international “Words of Tolerance” contest. She invited the students to choose a quotation from their favorite author, one who inspires them, in one of the six UN official languages namely English, French, Russian, Spanish, Chinese as well as Arabic and take a picture of themselves and a library or bookstore of their choice and relate it to the quote in a fun as well as creative way. Then post the photos on their Instagram account.

Also quoting Director-General of UNESCO Ms. Irina Bokova, Ghaemmaghami said a book is a link between the past and the future. It is a bridge between generations and across cultures. It is a force for creating and sharing wisdom and knowledge.

“This is what we celebrate on World Book and Copyright Day. The power of books to nurture creativity and advance dialogue between women and men of all cultures,” she quoted Bokova (Continue reading here).

The ceremony continued with a beautiful read of Shakespeare’s sonnet 18  in honor of the 400th anniversary of the demise of the renowned British poet after which a short discussion of the poem ensued.

The main program entailed the students naming their favorite fictional character with a short description of their reasons for their choice.

Manager of Ketabraneh Ms. Sarvenaz Heraner talked about how famous book characters – fictional or otherwise – should not be copied and they must be merely sources of inspiration.
