Envoy backs Moscow decision to withdraw from Syria

Moscow’s ambassador to Tehran Levan Dzhagaryan expressed hope on Tuesday that withdrawal of part of Russian forces from Syria will positively affect Syria peace talks in Geneva, AVA Diplomatic reports.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with Iranian and Russian businesspersons in the northwestern province of Zanjan, Dzhagaryan said that Russia’s approach to Syria crisis is close to that of Iran while Moscow also has cooperation with Washington on Syria.

Russian military action in Syria dealt a heavy blow to terrorist groups and Russia’s goals in the fight against terrorism were fulfilled, the ambassador said.

He also said that in a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Syrian President Bashar Assad thanked for Moscow’s supports to the legitimate government in Damascus.

He termed Turkey’s measures regarding the Syria crisis ‘destabilizing and regrettable’, saying Ankara is expected to pursue constructive policies towards the conflict in Syria.
