 President commends EU commitment to International Humanitarian Law

President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday commended the European Union’s commitment to International Humanitarian Law (IHL) accepting influx of migrants to the European states, AVA Diplomatic reports.

President Rouhani expressed sorrow about the tragedy of loss of lives of the migrants and a Syrian father lost his loved ones when their ship was wrecked and two sons and wife were drowned in the sea.

Rouhani said that when the people are in trouble and subject to sufferings, it is the humanitarian obligation of the European governments to host them.

President Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with Hungarian new Ambassador Janos Kovacs.

‘We are pleased that some European countries have taken positive stance to save refugees and we hope all European states will join the process,’ Rouhani said.

He added that Iran hosted many refugees and immigrants from neighboring countries.

The president underlined necessity of serious fight against terrorism and said that all existing problems such as refugees and migrants are the consequence of terrorism, violence and extremism of the terrorist groups and that terrorism created fear and intimidation in countries of the region and this is like the situation in Europe before World War I.

President Rouhani said that security and stability necessary for tranquility and economic development of nations and expressed hope that by collective cooperation sustainable security and stability would be created in the region and the entire world and nations would proceed with economic and cultural development.

He added that there are suitable capacities for development of ties between Iran and Hungary and said that it is necessary a positive and more constructive development take place in Tehran-Budapest ties.

The president underlined necessity of consolidation of relations between the two countries and added that there are plenty of capacities in the fields of economy, culture and politics, calling for activating them in line with mutual interests.

Janos Kuvacs after submitting his credentials, announced all-out efforts of the Hungarian government to enhance level of cooperation with Iran in economic, culture, agriculture, education and political fields.

He described Iran as a center of stability and security in the region and said that Iran’s nuclear deal is a suitable model for world governments to settle international disputes by peaceful means.
