On 10 December 2014, the Director of UNESCO’s Tehran Cluster Office met with the Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Mr Ali Jannati, AVA Diplomatic reports.
The Ministry of Culture is UNESCO’s national counterpart for activities in Communications and Information, as well as an important partner in all other program areas.
During the meeting, the Minister expressed his hope that with the arrival of the new Director, there would be an expansion of ties between UNESCO and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Ms. Kuisch Laroche talked about the planned activities in the areas of CI, Culture and Education for the coming year and the Minister expressed his full support to UNESCO. The two also discussed UNESCO’s 70th anniversary celebration and the Minister proposed to form a task force with the participation of different Ministries to discuss the organization of a joint event to mark Iran’s longstanding and excellent relationship with UNESCO.
Lastly, the Minister requested support from UNESCO in organizing training courses on UNESCO’s Cultural Conventions etc. for Iran’s cultural attachés in diplomatic missions abroad. Ms. Kuisch Laroche promised to follow-up on that suggestion.
