 Ambassador of Armenia to Iran paid a visit to Tehran School of Nursing and Midwifery

During the visit of Mr. Artashes Toumanian from Tehran School of Nursing and Midwifery, the cooperation between Iran and Armenia in the field of nursing and midwifery was discussed, AVA Diplomatic reports.

At a joint meeting that was held on Monday 24 Dec 2018 with the presence of Dr. Nikbakht, Dean of Tehran School of Nursing and Midwifery and number of faculty members, including Dr. Arpi Manukian, Dr. Mirmolaei, Dr. Seylani, Dr. Shahsavari, etc, Mr. Artashes Toumanian the Armenia’s ambassador to Iran said: “All the areas of cooperation between Armenia and Iran are important to us, particularly nursing & midwifery. The Armenian ambassador to Iran described the meeting as the result of previous interactions and dialogue, and expressed hope that the mutual relations between the two countries would be expanded.

Referring to his four years presence in Iran as Ambassador of Armenia, he said: “We have good relations in the field of health, and we seem to be able to cooperate well and achieve good results.” He also talked about a famous American cardiac surgeon who came to Armenia about 20 years ago and created a lot of progress and development in Armenia, and during these years, many patients from the countries of the region came to Armenia to receive treatment.

Dr. Ali Reza Nikbakht Nasrabadi, the Dean of Tehran School of Nursing and Midwifery referred to the School of Nursing and Midwifery of Tehran as the largest and the first ranking faculty in nursing and midwifery in Iran, and stated that: “The school has 60 faculty members and 1,400 students at undergraduate, MSc and PhD level in two fields of nursing and midwifery”. He added: “We have over 40 international students from 12 countries in the world, who are taught in English, and our school in the region is also considered as one of the major faculties.

The Armenia’s ambassador talked about the state of nursing in Armenia and invited a delegation from school to visit relevant universities in Armenia and discuss the areas of mutual cooperation.

Dr. Seylani, the school’s vice-dean for international affairs, also welcomed the Armenia’s ambassador to the school and expressed hope that, this visit would be the basis for the initiation of interactions between the two countries. Referring to the importance of nursing and midwifery in the health system, she said: “The nursing and midwifery group in the health system of any country is usually one of the largest occupational groups and the treatment outcomes largely depend on the performance of these two occupational groups. They also play a major role in prevention, treatment and care.

Dr. Mirmolaei, the director of midwifery and reproductive health department referred to the 99-year history of teaching academic midwifery in Iran, – which is derived from France midwifery system, and the launch of PhD in the last 10 years.

At the end of meeting, the Armenian Ambassador visited the School’s Center for Clinical Skills and Library.
