Envoy: Britain to remain committed to nuclear deal
Britain as a negotiating party to Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA) would spare no effort to fully implement it, said the country’s ambassador to Tehran on Wednesday, AVA Diplomatic reports.
Iran and major world powers signed the landmark agreement in June 2015, according to which Tehran accepted to curb its nuclear program in return for relief of sanctions.
‘Iran and Britain, as two great countries, have good understanding of each other and could expand cooperation in regional and global issues by removing some obstacles,’ Nicholas Hopton added in a meeting with Iran-Britain Parliamentary friendship group Mostafa Kavakebian.
“Holding talks among the two countries’ parliament members is an easing factor in Iran-Britain relations and adds to their mutual understanding.
Kavakebian in the meeting also confirmed the British ambassador, calling the full implementation of the nuclear agreement a facilitator of the bilateral ties between Iran and Britain, and added that while some parties to JCPOA had been trying to impede its implementation, Tehran had been fully committed to its pledges.
He affirmed that all parties were expected to adhere to the letter and spirit of the agreement.
Criticizing anti-Iran remarks of some British officials, Kavakebian went on that with regard to democracy, Iran was not comparable to other countries of the region who were enjoying the West’s support referring to the huge turnout of Iran’s 12th presidential election as a lesson of democracy to many countries.
He also condemned the terrorist attack on Britain’s Manchester that claimed the lives of “innocent people” and affirmed that Iran is opposed to every form of extremism and terrorism.
He reminded that “Iran has already warned about arming, supporting and manipulating the terrorist organizations, but their regional allies are still backing them, causing the spread of insecurity and terrorist incidents all over the world.”
