 Iran, Ukraine stress broadening of bilateral relations

Majlis (Iranian parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin in a meeting in Tehran on Sunday underlined the need for the expansion of mutual cooperation, AVA Diplomatic reports.

During the meeting in the Iranian capital today, Larijani and Klimkin explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral ties.

The two sides also discussed regional developments.

During the meeting, Larijani underlined that Ukraine can invest in Iran’s railway system.

Klimkin, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Tehran on Sunday morning on a two-day visit at the invitation of Zarif.

Klimkin will also meet other senior Iranian official, including President Hassan Rouhani, during his stay in Tehran.

In late February, Ukrainian Ambassador in Tehran Sergei Buldiliak said his country is willing to enter into joint ventures with Iran in energy and aircraft manufacturing.

‘We are willing to expand bilateral relations, specially in economy,’ Buldiliak said in a meeting with Zarif in Tehran.

‘Ukraine enjoys abundant capacities in energy, shipbuilding, airplane manufacturing, spare parts and machinery. We hope our bilateral cooperation will expand to these arenas as well,’ he added.

During the meeting, Zarif referred to a recent meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, and expressed the hope that bilateral relations would broaden in the economic, trade and cultural fields.

Iran has been seeking to bolster ties with Eastern Europe, specially Ukraine, in all the different industrial, political, economic and cultural spheres in the last few years.
