German Ambassador to Tehran Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg said on Tuesday that Germany now lags behind its rivals in terms of economic relations with Iran, whereas it used to be the first major trade partner of the country, AVA Diplomatic reports.<\/p>\n
Ungern-Sternberg told Governor General of Khorassan Razavi Province that one of the reasons for lowlevel of bilateral trade ties is sanctions; however, it should be admitted that China enjoys high potential in the region, he added.<\/p>\n
‘Germany has always stood third or fourth in the world in terms of exports to Iran. It is still Iran’s major European partner.’<\/p>\n
The German Ambassador said on the international scene such countries as France, the US and China are competing with one another but ‘In my opinion the international trade is in favor of all. For instance, several days ago, I saw the facilities of Assalouyeh that can be a rival for German petrochemical company; however, we welcome the competition.’<\/p>\n
Elsewhere in his remarks, the German diplomat said Iran and Khorassan Razavi Province have had many troubles in helping Afghan refugees and compared to other European countries, Germany rendered greatest amount of help to Afghanistan and its refugees.<\/p>\n
Ungern-Sternberg said assistance was also given to Iran in that connection, including financing construction of several schools and warehouses.<\/p>\n
He went on to say that Germany is ready to teach German language in Mashhad universities. ‘When there is such cooperation with universities in Tehran and Isfahan, why not in Mashhad?’<\/p>\n
He said that of course, such cooperation cannot be one-sided because there are many Germans willing to learn Persian language and can come to Mashhad and learn Persian under an ageement to be signed for this purpose.<\/p>\n
Governor General of Khorassan Razavi Province Ali-Reza Rashidian, told the German ambassador that Rashidian referred to presence of 300,000 Afghan refugees in Mashhad and said Iran has set up a guest house for residence of Afghans in the city of Torbat Jam, which is close to border with Afghanistan, and part of facilities there is provided through the UN contribution. In my recent visit to the area, the physicians residing in the guest house announced that their wages has not been paid for six months by the UN.’<\/p>\n
Rashidian said international cooperation is low and less significant but Iran has tried to provide suitable living conditions for the Afghan refugees.<\/p>\n
He added, ‘Now, there are more than 60,000 Afghan pupils and more than 1,600 Afghan college students studying in schools and universities of Khorassan Razavi Province and more than 40,000 working licenses have been issued for Afghan nationals in the province.’<\/p>\n
Pointing to the economic and cultural potential of the province and Mashhad metropolitan city, he said there is very good capacity for expansion of scientific and economic relations between Khorassan Razavi Province and Germany or one of its states, that is ready for ties with Khorassan Province.<\/p>\n
Governor General of Khorassan Razavi Province said the province not only has high marketing capacity but can also export German goods to Afghanistan with regards to the security and economic conditions prevailing in Afghanistan.’<\/p>\n
He proposed that Khorassan Razavi Province welcomes new German commercial delegations and and is ready to dispatch its commercial delegations to Germany.<\/p>\n
Rashidian said Khorassan Razavi Province has economic exchanges with 80 countries and German stands 11th in the list in terms of exporting goods to the Province and 18th in terms of importing commodities from Khorasan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
