 Iran supports peace in Korean Peninsula

President Hassan Rouhani said Iran is against US interference in the world as well as exerting pressure on countries, saying world problems cannot be solved through war or intensifying differences and tension, AVA Diplomatic reports.

According to Presidential Office Website, President Rouhani, receiving North Korea’s new ambassador’s credentials on Monday, said sanctions against North Korea ‘have done harm only to people of this country.’

‘We always condemn sanctions and illegal pressures. We should withstand against improper ambitions of big powers through cooperation and coordination.’

The President supported the policy of peace and security in Korean Peninsula, adding that the two Koreas should work for unity, because war and tension cannot solve the problems of the two countries.

‘We should try to reach desired results through dialogue and understanding,’ he said.

Referring to the amicable ties between Iran and North Korea following the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, President Rouhani pointed out that the people and government of Iran won’t forget bilateral cooperation during Iran-Iraq war.

He added Iran is willing to continue the good relations between the two countries in political, economic, and technological affairs and the new ambassador can help deepen the cooperation.

Meanwhile, the new Korean Ambassador Kang Sam Hyun said the government and people of Iran have gained many achievements in pursuance of peaceful nuclear technology by thwarting the US plots, which are admired by the government and people of North Korea.

The ambassador pointed to his country’s position on establishing peace in Korean Peninsula and presented a report on Western sanctions against North Korea.

Extending an invitation from his country’s leader to President Rouhani to travel to Pyongyang , the ambassador said Iran and North Korea have enjoyed good relations and that he would do his best to further improve these ties.
