Iran, US upbeat about solving differences: veteran US diplomat

Veteran US diplomat John Limbert said Tuesday that both Iran and the US are increasingly optimistic about resolving the outstanding differences although they are well aware of the difficulties ahead, AVA Diplomatic reports. In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Limbert, former Deputy Assistant of Secretary of State for Iran at the US State Departmentˈs Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs said it is very important that despite all the problems, both sides are still continuing with their efforts to bring the dispute to an end.

Limbert, also a former US diplomat in Tehran, compared nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 with negotiations between the West and the former Soviet Union and said Iran and the US had little to talk about in the past.

However, he said that today, Tehran and Washington seem to be determined to resolve the differences.

If sad incidents like what happened in Gaza had occurred two or three years ago, they would have halted the nuclear talks with Tehran, he said, adding, this time it seems that both sides have separated these two issues and not allowed one to affect the other.
